The Redesigned Ram 1500 Versus the Ford F-150

The Ford F-150 stands as an icon of the American automotive industry--from its origins as a variant of the Model T, dubbed the "Model TT", the Ford F-150 sits atop the domestic market. However, over the past decade, Ram silently perfected their pickup truck construction. Abandoning convention to incorporate innovative, class-exclusive features, the all-new, ground-up redesign of the Ram 1500 usurps the reigning champion with best-in-class specifications and advanced technology.

Power and Performance

Most importantly when considering your next pickup truck, the powertrain directly determines the overall capability of your vehicle. As standard, the Ford F-150 comes equipped with a 3.3-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine that produces 290 horsepower, and 265 pound-feet. The Ram 1500, conversely, comes standard with the legendary 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 engine with eTorque (a mild hybrid system) that produces 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet. With greater displacement and the eTorque system integrated, the Ram 1500 outperforms the Ford F-150 by a notable margin. For available engines, the Ford F-150 offers four additional options on top of the 3.3-liter Ti-VCT V6. Opting for quality over quantity, the Ram 1500 offers two additional engine options: either the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8, or 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 with eTorque, resulting in 410 pound-feet and 395 horsepower, and Best-in-Class V8 towing capabilities at 12,750 pounds! Accompanied by the class-exclusive TorqueFlite® eight-speed automatic transmission to better transfer the immense power to the wheels, the Ram 1500 usurps the Ford F-150 through innovative design.

Further amending the Ram 1500's exclusive construction, improved aerodynamics and an active air dam result in a lower frontal drag coefficient than some midsize SUVs. Accompanied by a class-exclusive Active-Level™ Four Corner Air Suspension system that automatically lowers the vehicle at highway speeds and adjusts to balance payloads with ease, the Ram 1500's suspension outstrips the Ford F-150's complete lack of automated suspension systems like those present on the Ram 1500.

Interior and Technology

Both trucks come equipped with their particular brand's entertainment system--Ford's SYNC®, and Ram's Uconnect®. However, while the F-150 comes equipped with the SYNC® 3 system and accompanying touchscreen, the Ram 1500's massive available Uconnect® 12 system and largest-in-class 12-inch touchscreen offers drivers a degree of technological integration unparalleled within the class. Further amending the interior, the Ram 1500 features active noise cancellation--resulting in Best-in-Class interior quietness. Additional features such as a dual-pane panoramic sunroof are available, in conjunction with the RamBin® in-floor storage compartment that assists in reaching the massive 151-liters of interior cargo space found within the cabin of the Ram 1500. The Ford F-150, conversely, does not feature any of these amenities or specifications--resulting in the Ram 1500's superiority once more.

Safety and Exterior Design

Both vehicles take safety seriously--incorporating advanced features to result in a safe, secure ride for you, your passengers, and your cargo. However, the Ram 1500 offers over one hundred standard and available features, in addition to the 98-percent high-strength steel comprising the truck's frame. Largest-in-Class brakes also assist in providing the  Ram 1500 with superior safety and security, resulting in a shorter stopping distance than the competition.

While the Ford F-150 upholds its legendary exterior design with an adherence to its legacy, the Ram 1500 boasts a boldly redesigned exterior. Conjoining sleek sophistication and brutish brawn, the Ram 1500 exudes both dominating, robust characteristics intrinsic to the pickup truck segment, and a luxurious style typically befitting of luxury sedans. In addition to the aesthetic value, the Ram 1500's redesign not only results in a sleek exterior profile, but superior efficiency by improving overall aerodynamics.

The Ram 1500: Available at La Porte Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM

With the Ram 1500's top trim, the Limited, starting at $55,485, the Ford F-150 Limited starts at $60,850.
